Hot wells

Description

Hot wells are used to accumulate water-steam condensate coming from the processing equipment running on steam. Steam liquefaction occures in hot wells, that is, condensate formation, which may be reused. The hot wells may also be used to store hot water at temperature up to + 95ºC, serve as drain tanks.

The main operation facilities are boiler-houses, heat power and generation equipment, heat consumers, power plants and other processing lines.

Hot wells production at SARRZ

The Saratov Reservoir Plant produces hot wells up to 100 m3 in accordance with standard design solution 903-3-04S-91 "Condensate Tanks".

Depending on the ambient temperature, steel grade and sheet metal thickness (3-16 mm) are calculated. So, while in the operation up to -20°C structural carbon steel St2ps2 is used; up to -30°C - structural commercial-quality steel (VSt3sp5) and alloyed steel ST20; between -30...-50°C - low alloyed steel 09G2S.

Due to the high corrosion of the steam-water mixture, the inner surface is covered with corrosion-resistant compounds. For ease coating, all stiffeners are placed on the outside of the shell.

If it is necessary to maintain the operating temperature above +45°C, heat insulation with a thickness of up to 100 mm is equipped on the outer side of the shell.

Hot wells of large volume are equipped with a ladder and a maintenance platform for convenient access to the assembly cover.

Hot wells design

The body is a cylindrical welded shell with conical, spherical or elliptical bottoms and stiffeners placed on the outer surface.

It is installed on a concrete foundation at site.

Thehot wells are provided with fittings for steam supply and condensate return, a branch pipe for safety valve installation, a assembly cover and a drainage line. The equipment layout is designed in accordance with customer's requirements and may consist of:

  • low and highlevel indicators
  • temperature gage
  • pressure gauge
  • sampler
  • level alarm
